Music listeners in Newcastle have not disappointed this year, with the release of the official top songs and artists Novocastrians love.
Thursday 4 December marked the annual Wrapped Day, where music streaming platform Spotify releases data showing all users’ favourites from the past 12 months.
This year, it unveiled LGA specific data, showcasing the top songs, artists and albums for listeners in Newcastle.
Taylor Swift came in as Novocastrians’ favourite musical artist, followed by Drake, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.
Newcastle’s favourite song was Ordinary by Alex Warren, with That’s So True by Gracie Abrams in second, followed by back to friends by sombr, BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish and APT by ROSE & Bruno Mars.
Our favourite albums did not disappoint either.
Taking out the top spot was Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet.
In second was You’ll Be Alright, Kid (Chapter 1) by Alex Warren, with HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish in third, The Secret of Us by Gracie Abrams in fourth and SOS Deluxe: LANA by SZA in fifth.
The rankings were highly-representative of the national favourites across all three categories.
Australia’s top artists were Taylor Swift, Drake, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish.
Ordinary by Alex Warren was also the most streamed song by Australian listeners, followed by That’s So True by Billie Eilish, BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish, back to friends by sombr and APT by ROSE & Bruno Mars.
However, the album rankings demonstrated several differences.
At the top was KPop Demon Hunters (Soundtrack from the Netflix Film by KPop Demon Hunters Cast), followed by You’ll Be Alright by Alex Warren, Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, So Close To What??? By Tate McCrae and SOS Deluxe: LANAuxe: LANA by SZA.
Sadly, no Australian artists appeared at the top of the list in any category, potentially marking a move away from local listening for many people.
But, The Kid Laroi, The Wiggles, Tame Impala and AC/DC still made some impact on audiences.
