Wet weather forces postponement of Wallsend’s Flick and Fun movie night

Don’t despair! The Wallsend Business Improvement Association’s (BIA) Flick and Fun in Federal Park will still go ahead, just not this weekend as previously publicised.

After suffering at the hands of the weather gods, on Saturday 20 November, organisers have been dealt a similar fate with the rescheduled event, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting more showers over the coming days.

That forecast forced the Wallsend BIA to make a tough decision, postponing the movie night – featuring the animated blockbuster Ice Age – to Saturday 15 January 2022.

“Upon inspection of Federal Park on Wednesday (24 November), we decided it was best to delay it, given the grounds were very wet under foot,” spokesperson Deb Austin said.

“We are extremely disappointed to have to postpone this fabulous, free family event.

“But, we have no choice due to the inclement weather and the fear of damaging the grounds at Federal Park even further.

“Our sincere gratitude goes to all operators involved and we look forward to rolling out Flick and Fun, again, early in 2022.”

Ms Austin said, despite the setback, more events were in the pipeline moving forward.

“The Wallsend BIA has worked tirelessly with the community developing interesting and innovative activations in Wallsend,” she explained.

“And, we were all so excited about a fun movie night complete with popcorn, super heroes and lots of family and friends gathering but unfortunately we cannot control the weather.

“We will continue to implement concepts in Wallsend and, next Wednesday 1 December, we will welcome Santa at the Rotunda in Nelson Street, Wallsend.

“We’ll light up the sky with thousands of fairy lights and decorations on the Rotunda.

“So, we invite the community to join us from 7pm for Romancing the Rotunda.”
