The predicted wet weather could affect several Transport for NSW (TfNSW) projects throughout the Hunter this week.

Maintenance work is planned on O’Brien Street at Gateshead, from 7am to 4pm on weekdays over the next five days.

However, the section between Oxford and Heshbon streets will be open to local traffic only, to allow workers to safely carry out kerb and guttering replacement.

Street parking is restricted, too.

Residents are requested to park in their driveways or on Heshbon Street during this time.

TfNSW is also scheduled to sweep and clean multiple bridges between Wootton Way at Coolongolook and Masonite Road at Heatherbrae from Monday 1 July.

Three weeks has been set aside to complete this task, 7am to 5pm from Mondays to Thursdays.

Traffic control, including a single lane closure, and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h are in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

Over Size Over Mass (OSOM) vehicles will not be impacted by this work.

Crews are slated to continue construction on the Hexham Straight Widening project as well.

If it goes ahead, with rain forecast for several days, changes will occur at:

• Contraflow will be in place on the inbound lane and a reduced speed of 40km/h from the Newcastle Inner City Bypass to Ironbark Creek bridge until Thursday 4 July.  The right-hand turn lane from Maitland Road into the Newcastle Inner City Bypass will be temporarily closed.  Traffic will detour via Wallsend Road
• Lane closures and a reduced speed of 40km/h on the inbound and outbound lanes of Maitland Road around Ironbark Creek bridge until Thursday 4 July
• Lane closures and a reduced speed of 40km/h on the inbound and outbound lanes of Maitland Road, between Old Maitland Road, Hexham and Hexham Station on Wednesday 3 July from 6.30pm to 5.30am
• Lane closures and a reduced speed of 40km/h on the inbound and outbound lanes of Maitland Road between Sparke Street and Old Maitland Road on Thursday 4 July

A temporary speed of 60km/h will remain in place during ongoing day work and reduce to 40km/h at night.

OSOM operators with a ground contact wider than 3.2m and/or overall width greater than 4.5m are advised to contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 1800 515 141.

Motorists should follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers, use alternative routes where possible, or allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time.

It’s a similar story on M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.

The work will require lane closures and temporary speed reductions at the following locations and times:

• Lenaghans Drive northbound and southbound traffic stoppages and reduced speed limit of 40km/h from 7am to 5pm, and from 7pm to 5am, Monday 1 to Friday 5 July
• Pacific Highway northbound and southbound lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h from 7pm to 5am, Monday 1 to Friday 5 July
• M1 Pacific Motorway northbound and southbound lane closure from 7pm to 5am, Monday 1 to Friday 5 July

Again, OSOM operators must contact the project team at least one day ahead of movement on 0423 323 946.

Significant delays can occur if they fail to do so.
