A West Wallsend man is still wrapping his head around the reality of securing a life-changing $270,000 windfall.
The Hunter resident picked up the Keno Classic 9 Spot jackpot on Thursday 26 June.
As a result, he can now look forward to a $268,569.70 payday.
“I’m adjusting to the news; it’s a nice win, that’s for sure,” he said while speaking to an official from Keno.
“I put on the ticket but didn’t check it until the next day.
“I saw the 9 Spot jackpot went off and I remember thinking: ‘this could be good’.
“Even so, I still wasn’t ready when I realised I was holding the winning ticket.
“I mean, you always hope for a win, but it still feels unexpected to really get one.
“It was a nice shock and I’m still very surprised by it.
“I always enjoy playing Keno.
“I’ve played for years… and I’ve had smaller wins but never one like this.”
When asked how he planned to use his newfound fortune, the man said he would help his family.
And, of course, there’s also retirement.
“I’ve got a large extended family that I always like helping, so it’ll come in handy for that,” he explained.
“I’ll also put away a bit for retirement.
“I’m sure I’ll get something nice for myself, too.”
His winning entry was purchased from West Wallsend Workers Club.
In 2024, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 76 million wins collectively worth more than $1.19 billion.
During this time, it crowned 23 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home in excess of $54.9 million.
Eleven of these major winners were from NSW and the ACT, including an East Maitland dad who scored a $6.6 million bounty.
