At just 10 years of age, Hunter local Wesley Marsh turned one of his brightest ideas into a book aimed to teach fellow youngsters about time.
With an everlasting passion for reading, he’d always been a smart kid.
But, it wasn’t until he began preparing for his first NAPLAN test, did he really strike gold.
Wesley told the Newcastle Weekly his parents tasked him with coming up with a short story on the spot ahead of his creative writing exam.
His maiden idea was about a lonely clock who wanted to travel the world to meet others like him from different time zones.
After hearing the concept, his parents realised it had potential.
“My dad said it could be a really good teacher for little kids so that they knew different time zones,” Wesley explained.
Luckily, he has done more than enough travel for a lad his age, having been to Vietnam, New York, Finland, France and the United Kingdom, all before he was 10.
He said his experience abroad was what prompted his interest in time zones.
Over the span of three months, Wesley spent countless hours researching ideas for his first book.
The final product is a children’s story titled Guy Meets Time, which is a general overview of the world’s cultures and time zones.
However, this is only the beginning.
Wesley said it was the first of a long line of books, with the next two about the United Kingdom and Spain already written.
His dad, Glenn Marsh, said their goal was to get the stories into local libraries for other children to enjoy and take home.
“We’ve never done this before,” he added.
“So, it’s a bit of a weird process, but we’re trying out best to promote it and get it out into the public.”
