Wedding auction to raise vital funds for charity

SHARE

Calling all engaged couples in the Hunter, do you want the money you spend on your wedding to go to a good cause?

If the answer is yes, then you need to make a bid for The 2 Montys Charity Wedding Event.

On Sunday 30 January an $80,000 wedding package will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

It includes everything you need to get hitched on Friday 24 June 2022 at Enzo Hunter Valley’s Ironbark Hill Vineyard.

It’s a date celebrants and charity auction organisers Monty King and Monty Haron were lucky to score given the number of weddings that have been rescheduled after COVID-19 forced couples to press pause on their nuptials.

All funds will be donated to RUN DIPG, a local charity that’s dedicated to helping children impacted by the deadliest form of cancer – diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).

Coordinated by Dr Matt Dun – a renowned cancer researcher at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and the University of Newcastle – RUN DIPG has funded critical medical research into the illness.

Dr Dun started the charity after losing his daughter Josephine, who passed away with DIPG at just four years old in 2019.

Monty King said they chose the charity to help it continue its vital work.

“We decided it was their turn this time,” he said.

“We’ve previously raised funds for Camp Quality and The Starlight Foundation.

“We like to keep the charity local, [and] from a personal perspective there is a little girl my son knows who had DIPG so I wanted to help the charity that supports children with this cancer.”

The auction will be hosted at Enzo Hunter Valley and online.

At the previous two events, they raised $34,500 for Camp Quality and $40,100 for The Starlight Foundation – they’re hoping to beat that number again this year.

How their partnership came about was easy, the celebrants thought it was unique that they were both named Monty.

“I got wind of another fella called Monty becoming a marriage celebrant and I thought it was uncanny that we had the same name,” Mr King said.

“We became friends and we talked about doing a wedding together and that evolved into doing it for charity and it went from there.”
