Weather gods dim Raymond Terrace’s Illuminate

SHARE

The weather gods have struck… forcing organisers to reschedule the much-awaited Illuminate Raymond Terrace this weekend.

With the Bureau of Meteorology (Bom) foretelling torrential rain throughout the Hunter – as well as the state – over the coming days, it appears several events will be impacted.

The first, however, is the fun-filled winter celebration at Raymond Terrace, which was scheduled for Saturday 1 June.

“We made this decision with the community’s enjoyment and accessibility in mind,” a Port Stephens Council spokesperson said.

“Forecasts predict a large rain front for the original date, potentially affecting key attractions like the lantern parade, fireworks and lighting displays.

“Additionally, heavy falls would make navigating the event site challenging, especially for those with accessibility needs.

“By postponing, council ensures a smooth event experience for everyone.

“This proactive approach also allows for maximum reinvestment of funds into a spectacular showcase in the future.

“So, locals and visitors alike are now asked to mark their calendars for Saturday 15 June.

“Get ready for a vibrant winter celebration.

“Illuminate Raymond Terrace promises a dazzling night filled with light installations, community spirit and unforgettable entertainment.”

Meanwhile, there are plenty of other things to keep people occupied.

The Lake Macquarie Dobell Festival has begun across Lake Macquarie and will continue until Sunday 30 June.

BIG Live is presenting Romeo & Juliet at the Civic Theatre, in Newcastle, on 1 June, while the FLOW Dance and Poetry Night remains scheduled for Saturday at the Q Building, University of Newcastle, in Honeysuckle Drive.
