No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose is like a kid in a candy store.
And, for good reason, too.
His organisation will return to the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 11 May, this time with a star-studded line-up, which includes rugby league legend turned professional pugilist Paul Gallen, Olympic Games bronze medallist Harry Garside and rising star Nikita Tszyu.
“I’m just excited,” the ex-NRL cult hero said.
“I think the Dennis Hogan-Tim Tszyu fight, in 2021, set a standard to what we expect from the atmosphere here in Newcastle.
“I’m hoping we can go one better with this one.
“With the fights we’ve got planned, you’d be hard up to not be able to cheer and set the place alight.
“I believe 11 May will be a cracker.”
Gallen faces Kris Terzievski for the ANBF Australasian heavyweight title, Garside is ready to defend his Australian lightweight crown against Layton McFerran and Tszyu, the son of Kostya and brother of Tim, meets Mason Smith in his second pro fight.
“I think all three of them will turn on a nice show for the Novocastrians,” Rose said.
“Nikita headlined our first gig of the year in Brisbane – and he was fantastic.
“Harry did likewise the other week in Sydney.
“He also produced a great performance.
“Now, we’ve got them both back [in the ring] alongside Paul.
“It really is a terrific card.
“We wanted to put on a really big show for this one.
“And, I think we’ve done it.
“To return to Newcastle – and do it – is very exciting for us.”
Rose said the line-up’s biggest appeal, however, was the differences between the three feature boxers.
“You’ve seen what Gal offers,” he told the Newcastle Weekly.
“He’s a big heavyweight, so anything can happen in that division.
“He is a workhorse, he doesn’t back down from anything, he gets in and mixes it up.
“So, we know he’s going to be entertaining.
“As for Harry, well, he’s going to throw about 1,000 punches.
“His work-rate is fantastic, he’s very slick in the ring, too.
“We’ll definitely get a great show from him.
“Then there’s Nikita.
“We still don’t know what he’s going to bring to the table.
“Everyone saw in Brisbane that he has massive power in his hands.
“He’s a little bit different to his sibling (Tim).
“However, he possesses so much power.
“We’ve still got a lot to learn about Nikita as a professional fighter.
“And, that is what’s going to be exciting to watch come 11 May.”
The door is also open for a number of Hunter-based boxers to make their mark next month, according to Rose.
“We’ll have a few locals on the undercard,” he said.
“For No Limit Boxing, that’s exciting as well.
“Plenty of good fighters have come out of Newcastle over the years.
“Even now, there’s a lot of good talent coming through the ranks.
“So, we’ll be announcing those lucky guys in the coming week.”
Tickets for the extravaganza are currently on sale.
