With families across the Hunter staying home to help flatten the coronavirus curve, here are five virtual events to keep you entertained during this time.
Educational videos with the Australian Reptile Park
Since the end of March, the Australian Reptile Park has been live streaming with their animals and posting educational videos on their Facebook page to help occupy and inform their followers.
Each weekday, the page has been hosting live videos with some of the park’s animals at 2pm.
Over the last few weeks, Elvis the Crocodile, Hugo the Galapagos Tortoise and several other animals have made an appearance.
The organisation also shares another series featuring nature and wildlife expert Tim Faulkner.
Animal Tales with Tim Faulkner is shared each day from Monday- Friday at 10am.
It is an educational series for students to learn about Australian wildlife, and how they can help protect them.
The videos are shared on the organisation’s and Tim Faulkner’s Facebook page and the Australian Reptile Park YouTube channel.
Live streamed workshops with Curious Legends
Theatre and production company Curious Legends has a series of interactive live-streamed workshops on its Facebook page.
Live from the Newcastle studio, the activities bring together families all over the globe to explore theatre, puppetry and storytelling.
The first workshop explored sound while the coming workshops will explore, stories from the dark, creating your own flying machine and stories for kids aged four to eight.
Tune in each weekday at 1.30pm to take part in these workshops.
Spy on a Koala with Blackbutt Reserve
Join the Koala’s at Blackbutt for lunch as City of Newcastle livestreams their feeding on its Facebook page each day.
You can also explore their enclosure and chat online with Ranger Doyle to find out everything you want to know about the animals at the reserve.
Educational videos with The Hunter Valley Zoo
Like most services The Hunter Valley Zoo has had to close its gates because of the pandemic but it has been sharing videos and photos on its Facebook page to entertain its followers.
Learn all about capuchin monkeys, wolves, meerkats, lions and more.
Live experiments with Newcastle Museum
Museum Express @ home is a series of video experiments safe and easy enough to do at home for all budding scientists. The videos are shared to the museum’s Facebook page to keep the whole family entertained.
The museum also shares a video every Tuesday called Tuesday Tales, where a volunteer reads a book.
