Ivy, Bonnie and Roly believe the new off-leash dog park is the “paw-fect” addition to the Maitland community.
The English pointer x mastiff, border collie and Greenland husky were among the first canines to “test out” the enclosed facility in Rutherford, which officially opened its gates on Monday 5 January.
Located on Verge Street, off Wollombi Road, it boasts two fenced areas for large and small dogs, along with seating, shelter and bubblers.
Other amenities are expected to be added to the site.
The Rutherford locale becomes the seventh similar reserve in the LGA, alongside Raworth, Lorn, Rathluba, Thornton, Gillieston Heights and East Maitland.
“We’re very pleased to deliver this off-leash park for the people and pooches of Maitland,” mayor Philip Penfold said.
“Council’s committed to shaping great neighbourhoods with quality open, and welcoming, spaces.
“What residents mightn’t know is there are more than one dog for every two people in this LGA alone.
“That’s why it was important to build such a facility in the western part of the city.
“I’m sure the four-legged family members will love it.”
