Jane Hegarty’s selfless dedication to the Cassilis district has earned her the Upper Hunter Local Woman of the Year award.
The much-loved resident’s leadership and drive are credited for creating lasting opportunities in the region, proving that small towns can make a big impact when people work together.
It comes after she also picked up the 2025 Upper Hunter Shire Citizen of the Year honour.
The latest accolade, announced on Thursday 5 March, reaffirms Ms Hegarty’s outstanding contribution to her community.
Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell said the Local Women of the Year Awards were an important opportunity to acknowledge the individuals who make a meaningful difference across NSW every day.
“Our community is incredibly proud to see Jane honoured at the gala ceremony in Sydney,” he explained.
“Through her work in the Cassilis district, she has delivered a lasting impact locally.
“And, this recognition is thoroughly deserved.
“It’s clear that Jane has demonstrated excellence with genuine community service and has exemplified the strength, capability and generosity that define the women in our community and across NSW.”
Ms Hegarty’s contributions include being chair of the Cassilis District Development Group, which has advocated for road safety improvements, better mobile telephone reception and improved early education opportunities for local children.
She is also a driving force behind the Cassilis Ball fundraiser and the Giro de Cassilis bike ride – that takes place again this weekend – while serving on NSW Farmers Association panels comprising the renewable energy taskforce and the economic and trade committee.
Introduced by the Nationals and Liberals NSW Government in 2012, the annual Local Women of the Year Awards continue to recognise those whose determination, bravery, skill and passion have inspired their communities and others to achieve great things.
Jane Goddard was named the Swansea recipient, with Viv Allanson OAM securing the Charlestown plaudits.
