Upper Hunter racer Rylan Gray took another step towards clinching the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series crown following a successful weekend in the Central Tablelands.
The Muswellbrook speedster claimed round five at the Repco Bathurst 1000 with a clinical race two victory.
After benefitting from a mistake by teammate Nash Morris, the 18-year-old secured his third win of the season.
The former Denman Public School student entered the latest outing with his Tickford Ford holding a 117-point lead over Lochie Dalton.
By Sunday night, that gap extended to 147.
Now, if he finishes ahead of Dalton in the Adelaide opener next month, with 300 points on the line, Gray will secure the title with a race in hand.
Morris began brilliantly at the weekend, starting from third on the grid and splitting the front row to launch into the lead.
While the three Tickford Fords squabbled up Mountain Straight, mayhem broke out behind at Hell Corner, leading to the first Safety Car intervention.
The race then restarted with 21-and-a-half minutes remaining.
Morris led Gray, Dalton, Brad Vaughan and Reuben Goodall.
The latter immediately applied the blowtorch to the back of Vaughan’s Brad Jones Racing Commodore, with the likes of Jobe Stewart and Campbell Logan also lurking.
Morris made a critical unforced error soon after, giving series leader Gray the free kick he needed to gain the advantage.
He then set the fastest lap of the race with the clean air before going on with the job.
Dalton picked up second for the round, ahead of Morris.
Vaughan fought valiantly to hold on to fourth, managing to pip Goodall by 0.1383 seconds, with Logan, Stewart, Bates, Cameron McLeod and Jonathon Webb hot on their heels.
The final event of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will take place at the bp Adelaide Grand Final from 27 to 30 November.
