Upper Hunter projects receive kick-along

Seventeen Upper Hunter projects are set to benefit from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF).

The latest wave of grants – totalling $4,075,634 – will deliver new and upgraded facilities, infrastructure and programs that make a big difference to everyday life in the bush.

Singleton LGA pocketed $886,405, Muswellbrook LGA was allocated $852,977, Upper Hunter LGA secured a handy $839,201, Dungog LGA picked up $806,382 and the Liverpool Plains LGA collected $690,669.

Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell said the projects would build upon the NSW Government’s vision to help make regional NSW the best place to live, work and visit.

“Across my electorate, we are going to see more than $4 million invested in 11 council and six community group initiatives,” he stated.

“That’s on top of the $16.5 million this fund has already delivered for 72 projects, including upgrades at Singleton and Muswellbrook swimming pools plus improvements at Gloucester, Dungog and Merriwa showgrounds.”

Singleton Council will spend $773,544 towards Singleton Track and Field Club’s new amenities and storage building while the Singleton Bulls Rugby Club can increase clubhouse and carpark security with its $52,150.

Muswellbrook’s Olympic Park finally gets a $486,992 boost for facilities improvements by Muswellbrook Shire Council.

The Denman Netball Association will welcome $296,286 for its courts while the Muswellbrook Pistol Club also garnered $104,118 for safety improvements.

Upper Hunter Shire Council is looking to fund projects at Merriwa and Scone swimming pools as well as Scone tennis courts.

A further $276,480 will be spent on clubhouse upgrades, much to the delight of the Scone Brumbies Rugby Club.

Gresford Sporting Complex, Bennett Park Dungog and the Clarence Town Village Green Wetland are the beneficiaries from Dungog Shire Council’s application.

Liverpool Plains Shire Council will oversee work on the Quirindi Sporting Hub Precinct clubhouse modernisation and the Plains Fitness Centre.

NSW Deputy Premier Paul Toole said that 435 projects across every single one of the state’s 93 regional LGAs would receive funding under round four of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

“About half of this latest $100 million round will deliver 189 female sporting projects, including the construction or upgrade of female changerooms, additional amenity blocks and bathrooms, and playing surfaces like netball and tennis courts,” the Minister for Regional NSW stated.

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the female sporting amenities projects, backed by SCCF, would make it easier for women and girls to be a part of their local sports team.

“Better facilities and support programs that encourage greater female participation at all levels and across all sporting codes will go a long way to levelling the playing field for women,” she added.

Seven of the Upper Hunter electorate projects are earmarked to assist women’s sport at Dungog, Gresford, Muswellbrook, Scone, Singleton and Quirindi.

The Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, which alongside the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund is delivering infrastructure and programs that generate opportunities, investment and jobs.
