Update: Teen cautioned over coughing incident

A teenager has been cautioned over a coughing incident in the Hunter Region this week.

Just before 2pm on Sunday 12 April, a 73-year-old and a 68-year-old woman were walking along Victoria Parade, Nelson Bay, and, as they approached the pedestrian crossing, a white Nissan Navara slowed and pulled up beside them.

Police have been told that a boy leaned his head and shoulders out of the passenger window and coughed over the couple.

He and the other occupants in the vehicle started laughing before the vehicle drove off.

The couple contacted police and officers from Port Stephens/Hunter Police District.

Following an investigation, a 16-year-old boy attended Ryde Police Station in Sydney and he will be issued with a caution under the Young Offenders Act.

Two other occupants of the car have been issued warnings for breaching the Health Minister’s Direction.
