The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) has tragically recorded another two COVID-19 related deaths after a man in his 80s from the Upper Hunter and a woman in her 90s from Lake Macquarie passed away.

The losses are a stark reminder that COVID-19 is still having a devastating impact on the region.

It comes as the district reported 2,388 new infections overnight. It’s the highest number of any local health district in the state.

Sadly, 78 cases are in hospital with six in ICU.

NSW as a whole reported 16,807 new cases and 11 deaths – seven men and four women aged in their 30s, 50s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Of the nine people over the age of 65, one person had received four doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, six people had received three doses, one person had received two doses and one person was unvaccinated.

The person in their 30s who died had received two doses of a vaccine and had no known underlying health conditions while the person in their 50s was triple jabbed and had significant underlying health conditions.

Of the 269,214 active cases across the state, there are currently 1,355 admitted to hospital, including 50 people in intensive care, 19 of whom require ventilation.
