Two deaths, 1,956 new COVID-19 cases in HNELHD

The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) has tragically recorded another two COVID-19 related deaths after a man in his 80s from Cessnock and a woman in her 90s from Maitland passed away.

It comes as the district reported 1,956 new cases from 661 positive PCRs and 1,295 rapid antigen tests.

Twenty-seven people in the region are in hospital, but no one is in ICU.

NSW as a whole reported 19,060 new cases and the deaths of 12 people – seven men and five women.

They were aged in their 50s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Of the ten people who died over the age of 65, three had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, three people had received two doses and four were not vaccinated.

The two men in their 50s who died were both unvaccinated and had significant underlying health conditions.

Of the state’s 195,681 active infections there are currently 1,090 admitted to hospital, including 29 people in intensive care, 13 of whom require ventilation.
