Two charged following pursuit through Newcastle, Lake Mac


Two people have been charged following a “reckless” pursuit through Newcastle and Lake Macquarie overnight.

About 12.30am on Wednesday 29 March, police from Newcastle City Police District were patrolling Lookout Road, New Lambton Heights, when they attempted to stop an allegedly stolen vehicle.

When it failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

However, officers terminated the chase a short time later due to safety concerns.

Road spikes were then successfully deployed at Kotara South, with the vehicle coming to a stop a short time later.

A 22-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Waratah Police Station.

The male was charged with five offences including police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, use class A vehicle displaying misleading etc number-plate, and receive etc property stolen outside NSW.

The female was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Both were refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 29 March.
