Two men have been charged following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery at Mayfield more than a month ago.
Officers were called to a business on Maitland Road about 11.30pm on Monday 18 August.
At the scene, they received details that two males entered the pizza shop and threatened staff with a firearm before leaving with cash.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Inquiries into the incident then began under Strike Force Samway.
As a result, Newcastle detectives – assisted by Tactical Police and Police Negotiators – executed a search warrant at a home, which included a vehicle on the premises, on Mulga Street, Windale, about 9.25pm on Tuesday 30 September.
There, they located and seized a firearm, clothing and electronics.
Two men – aged 25 and 28 – were arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station.
The younger male was charged with steal motor vehicle; robbery while armed with dangerous weapon; possess unauthorised firearm; and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
Furthermore, he was also indicted for special aggravated break and enter with intent – armed with dangerous weapon in relation to a break and enter, claimed to have occurred at the same business about 1.35am on Wednesday 12 February.
On that occasion, cash, keys and a car were allegedly stolen.
The older male was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.
After being formally refused bail on Wednesday 1 October, both men will now appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 11 November.
