Truck driver charged over fatal crash north of Scone

A truck driver has been hit with numerous driving charges following a fatal crash in the Upper Hunter late last year.

Emergency services were called to the New England Highway at Murulla, about 25km north of Scone, at 2pm on Monday 2 December, following reports of an accident.

Sadly, the man behind the wheel of an SUV – a 53-year-old – died before they arrived.

His passenger, another male, aged 55, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

He was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The truck driver, a 45-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital.

He was in a serious but stable condition.

Following extensive inquiries from the Crash Investigation Unit, officers arrested him on Sunday 23 March.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), not keep left of dividing line – class B/C vehicle, cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

The man received a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) to appear before Muswellbrook Local Court on Friday 2 May.
