In tragic circumstances, a scuba diver has died after being pulled unconscious from the water at Nelson Bay.
Emergency services were called to Fly Point about 11am on Saturday 8 November following reports a woman was in trouble.
Officers attached to Marine Area Command, Port Stephens-Hunter Police District and Raptor Squad attended.
The diver, believed to be aged in her 50s, was pulled from the water unresponsive and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.
She was taken to Tomaree Community Hospital in a critical condition.
But, sadly, she died on the way to hospital.
The woman is yet to be formally identified, however police have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
