The Tomaree Headland Heritage Group (THHG) will once again set up a “Help Desk” to assist visitors over the holiday period at Shoal Bay.
It follows the overwhelming responses to its previous stints during similar busy school breaks.
A band of hearty volunteers are expected to establish the service, at the entry to the Summit Walk, from Boxing Day (26 December) until early into the New Year.
“All up, we’ll be there 12 days,” THHG president Peter Clough said.
“The Help Desk can substantially enhance the visitor experience by providing information, directions and local material.
“We’ve found they’ve become more and more popular, and important, since the introduction of the Tomaree Coastal Walk, which extends 27km to Birubi Point.
“That trail showcases our beautiful coastal landscapes and diverse ecosystems.
“Then there’s the Tomaree Headland Summit Walk, which is a 2.2km hike offering breathtaking views of Port Stephens.
“It’s perfect for families looking to enjoy the great outdoors.

“Details on the WWII military history, including the gun emplacements, remain extremely popular, too.
“Most people are also fascinated by the opportunities for the future uses of the Tomaree Lodge, especially after the recent establishment of the Community Engagement Committee.
“Created by the NSW Government, it provides an advisory role on the facility’s long-term planning.”
Tomaree Headland continues to be the most popular visitor attraction in Port Stephens, according to Mr Clough.
“It draws more than 200,000 people to the area every year… and is rapidly growing,” he said.
“That reinforces the need for a Help Desk.
“It also offers an invaluable source of information for the Community Engagement Committee, of which THHG is a part of, NSW Government, Destination Port Stephens, Tomaree National Park Authority and Port Stephens Council.”
Visitors will be able to purchase the Paradise Interrupted military history book of the Tomaree Headland at the Help Desk, too.
