It was a double celebration recently for the state’s premier agricultural educational facility in the Hunter Valley.
Not only did more than 175 students graduate, they also commemorated the 60th anniversary of Tocal College at Paterson.
A cornerstone of ag training, the school delivered skillsets to 2,929 participants across 91 locations throughout NSW in 2024 alone.
But, those to receive top honours included Millfield’s Michael Lynch and Rosebrook’s Grace Lawrence.
Each were named Dux of Certificate III in Agriculture (Tocal Agricultural Production Program) and Dux of Certificate III in Horse Care (Tocal Stock Horse Breeding and Training Program) respectively.
Another local to shine was Mariah Livingston.
The Stockrington resident secured Dux of Certificate IV in Agriculture (Tocal Farm Supervisor and Agribusiness Program).
“For more than six decades, Tocal College has provided exceptional education and skills development for the state’s agricultural workforce,” said Minister for Agriculture Tara Moriarty, who attended the event.
“So, I congratulate this year’s young graduates.
“I look forward to hearing of their successes and the contributions they’ll make to the state’s ag sector.
“By focusing on increasing skill levels, improving safety standards and boosting productivity, Tocal College ensures that NSW remains at the forefront of agricultural innovation.
“In saying that, the school has never been more crucial as it continues to meet our evolving needs.
“Tocal College’s 60th anniversary isn’t just a celebration of its past successes.
“It is also a reflection of its ongoing commitment to nurturing and developing the ag workforce of the future.”
As Tocal College moves forward, its diverse array of courses and programs will continue to provide the state with highly-skilled employees capable of meeting the challenges of tomorrow’s agricultural industry.
NSW Independent Agriculture Commissioner Alison Stone praised the facility, too.
“By equipping the next generation of agricultural professionals with both the traditional knowledge and modern tools they need, Tocal College plays a vital role in ensuring the future of our industries remains strong and sustainable,” she said.
“Workforce and skill shortages continue to be significant challenges for primary sectors.
“So, I’m proud to say Tocal College is making a direct and impactful contribution to addressing these issues.”
