Open gardens to showcase the best of spring

SHARE

Spring has sprung and the blossoms are out in bloom in Tilligerry gardens across the Peninsula.

The Tilligerry Open Gardens is being held for the second year running, displaying several manicured and magnificent properties across Salt Ash and Tanilba Bay.

Organiser Linda Ennis says the event, which will be held on 27 September, has grown on last year’s efforts.

“Last year, we had five gardens and now we are up to nine so there’s lots of community interest with people putting their hands up,” she says.

The garden at Tanilba House is sure to attract green thumbs after evolving significantly over its 190 year history.

It’s also home to the oldest living olive tree in Australia.

Today, the garden spans three acres and embraces a cottage garden feel with a broad selection of plants and themes.

Heaven Gardens is also on show. It’s made up of five acres divided into two main areas; formal gardens and a natural wetlands.

The formal gardens consist of over 20 themed gardens with more than 600 plants, manicured hedges, multiple water features, and timber boardwalks.

Those attending the open day can also visit Tilligerry Habitat and Perpetual Gardens.

“Perpetual Gardens is at Salt Ash and is a huge property with themed gardens inspired by Bali and Asia, they are sensational,” Ms Ennis says.

She adds that, with COVID-19 restrictions still at large, the day offers a rare opportunity for people to attend an event while also being safe.

“We’ve all been cooped up for so long – it’s good to get out in the fresh air and wonder around gardens while social distancing,” she says.

“Most of them are big with lots of room and space; weather permitting, it should be a wonderful day.”

Tickets must be purchased prior to entry on the day and will be available at two locations: Heaven Gardens – 332 Lemon Tree Passage Road, Salt Ash, and Tilligerry Habitat – 2E King Albert Avenue, Tanilba Bay.

Tickets are $5 per person or $10 per family, which includes a map of the garden locations.

All proceeds go to the Tilligerry Community Association.
