Tigers keen to end Laurie Daley Cup campaign on winning note

SHARE

The Greater Northern Tigers are yet to win a game in their Laurie Daley Cup campaign but their coach is confident they can bounce back at Gulgong.

Darryl Rando remains buoyant his young under-18 side can overturn its run of losses.

They tackle the Western Rams at Gulgong’s Billy Dunn Oval from 11.20am on Saturday 5 February and will have three players returning to his squad to bolster their chances.

Daniel McMillan, Logan Dalli and Mitchell Cox are all back in a Tigers line-up that has had a few changes.

“We want to win a game, so hopefully we can come up with something,” Rando said.

“To do that, we must control the ball.

“I believe we’ve cruelled our Cup chances with far too many mistakes.

“A number of those errors occurred at crucial times, especially after scoring tries.”

The return of McMillan is a big plus, Rando added.

“We’ve missed him a lot this season,” he said of the talented forward.

“He used to start for us last year but didn’t have that luxury this season.”

Jake Clydsdale has also impressed, the big Scone prop cementing his berth as a starting front-rower while Narrabri’s Billy Youman has excelled wherever Rando has put him and whatever he’s asked of him.

“You can play him anywhere and he just plays good,” he said.

“He was on the wing for us last year.”

This season he has been in the back-row and excelled in a losing side.

The Tigers might go into the game without a win but they have good recent history against the Rams.

“We beat them in the semi-final last year,” Rando recalled.

“That was after they had beaten us in the final round game at Farrer the week before.”

Saturday’s clash kicks off at 11.20am.
