The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) has recorded just seven new COVID-19 cases overnight.

Locally, Lake Macquarie found two cases in Macquarie Hills while an infection in Abermain put Cessnock on the list.

The remaining detections are in the Mid Coast (two) and Tamworth Regional (two) LGAs.

Two were infectious in the community and four are linked to known exposures or clusters.

Since the beginning of the current outbreak, the district has reported 4,365 cases, with 240 still active.

Of the active infections none are currently being cared for in ICU.

NSW Health’s ongoing sewage surveillance program also detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in sewage samples collected from Dungog.

People in the area are urged to come forward for testing if they experience even the mildest of symptoms.

It comes as NSW reported 286 new cases and one death.

A man in his 60s from south eastern Sydney died at St George Hospital. He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.

There are currently 148 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 26 people in intensive care, five of whom require ventilation.

Cases of the Omicron variant are also rising with a total of 15 now in NSW, with more likely to be announced tomorrow when testing is completed today.

Across the state, 92.8% of people aged 16+ have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine while 77.2% of people aged 12-15 are double jabbed.
