The hottest hair trend to come out of lockdown

SHARE

Is your hair needing a little extra care during lockdown?

We’ve got you covered with these tips from self-proclaimed hair god and celebrity stylist Shannon JJ Williams.

He also gives an insight into one of the hottest trends to come out of lockdown – smoked marshmallow hair.

If you have naturally dark tresses or currently have balayage, it’s the trend for you.

It features brunette roots that gradually transition to caramel and platinum blonde ends using lowlights and highlights to create a seamless, dimensional look.

“Adding in highlights toned with the perfect ‘smoked marshmallow’ formula by your hair colourist or even pops of colour with hair extensions that are 3-4 shades lighter create that sexy voluminous effect for maximum impact,” Williams said.

“To achieve the texture, apply heat protection and use a straightening iron turned at 90 degrees passing down the strand creating a mermaid textured wave.

“Alternate the direction of each wave.”

Other trends he sees being popular this year are “brightness around the face, low maintenance blondes and shorter textured bobs”.

To keep your hair healthy without the help of your hair stylist, Williams suggests using hydrating products.

“Twice a week do an intense hydrating mask treatment,” he said.

“I am in love with the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask.”

With salons closed in the Hunter, until at least Friday 10 September, Williams says anyone who is considering attempting their own cut or colour should avoid it.

“Wait for your hairdresser,” he said.

“Even though there is nowhere to go, you still want to stay looking chic at home.

“Do not do anything reckless to your poor hair.”

If you’re looking to maintain your colour there are some solutions.

“I would suggest contacting your salon and checking with them, to see if they are creating any take home colour glosses or ‘toners’ that they can customise for you to apply at home,” he said.

“Otherwise, another alternative would be to use a shampoo and/or conditioner with colour tone in it to maintain colour during lockdown, plus keep up the brightness and shine.”
