Transport for NSW (TfNSW) resumes construction on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace this week.

To minimise impacts to motorists on the Black Hill to Tomago project, work will be carried out at night at the following locations:

• From 7.30pm to 5am on Monday 21 July, Tuesday 22 July and Thursday 24 July, the eastbound off-ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed with a detour in place via New England Highway/Maitland Road
• From 7pm to 5am on Tuesday 22 July and Wednesday 23 July, traffic signal works and realignment of the left turn lanes from Tomago Road onto the Pacific Highway southbound

Operators of over-size and/or over-mass (OSOM) vehicles with a ground contact greater than 3.2 metres or with overall width more than 4.5 metres are advised to contact the project team on 0423 323 946 at least one day ahead of proposed movement.

Significant delays can occur if they fail to do so.

Vehicles, under a permit, must not travel off the approved route unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Major work is also scheduled across the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 5pm on Saturday; and 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday.

It’ll will require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:

From 7pm to 5am on the nights of Monday 21 July until Friday 25 July:

• M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
• John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
• New England Highway at Tarro
• Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae

From 7am to 5pm, Monday 21 July until Friday 25 July:

• Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
• Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
• New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro

Maitland Road, Hexham

Major work will continue along the Hexham Straight Widening project this week.

It’ll take place from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 7pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday; and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.

Motorists are advised to follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers, use alternative routes where possible, or allow up to 15 minutes’ extra travel time.

As well:

• Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on the northbound and southbound lanes of Maitland Road, located from Sandgate Cemetery to north of Old Maitland Road, Sandgate on Monday 21 July
• Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on the northbound lanes of Maitland Road, located from Old Maitland Road, Sandgate to Shamrock Street on Tuesday 22 July
• Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on the northbound and southbound lanes of Maitland Road, located from Sparke Street to Shamrock Street, on Wednesday 23 July and Thursday 24 July
• Traffic will be in a contraflow arrangement on the northbound lanes of Maitland Road and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place from Old Maitland Road (East) to Old Maitland Road (West) until Thursday 24 July
• Traffic will be in a contraflow arrangement on the northbound lanes of Maitland Road and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place from Old Maitland Road (West) to north of the Oak Intersection on Monday 21 July and Tuesday 22 July
• Lane closures and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on the southbound lanes of Maitland Road, located from Old Maitland Road (West) to north of the Oak Intersection, on Wednesday 23 July and Thursday 24 July

New England Highway near Muswellbrook

Essential maintenance is slated for the New England Highway near the Liddell interchange, south of Muswellbrook.

Work, including asphalt resurfacing in both directions, will be carried out from 7pm to 4.30am Sunday to Thursday nights until Friday 8 August.

For the safety of workers and motorists, traffic control and a reduced 40 km/h speed limit is in place through the area, which is expected to add about five minutes to road-users’ journeys.

Golden Highway, 10km east of Merriwa

TfNSW will conduct essential maintenance on the Golden Highway, about 10 kilometres east of Merriwa, too.

It includes cleaning the road culvert as part of ongoing work to ensure its ongoing functionality.

Starting from Monday 21 July, it’ll take about three weeks to complete.

There will be one lane closed with stop/slow alternating traffic control and a reduced 40km/h speed limit in place during work hours.

Motorists may experience minor delays of up to five minutes.

Wide loads greater than 3.5 metres will be temporarily stopped by traffic control to allow cones or work vehicles to be moved for safe passage.

Golden Highway, Merriwa

Geotechnical investigations for future overtaking lanes are also planned on the Golden Highway, about 10 kilometres west of Merriwa.

Work, to start from 21 July, is expected to take about six weeks to complete, from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

There will be one lane closed with stop/slow alternating traffic control for up to two weeks and then a reduced 40km/h speed limit for the remaining four.

Motorists may experience minor delays of no more than five minutes.

Wide loads greater than five metres will be temporarily stopped by traffic control to allow cones or work vehicles to be moved for safe passage.
