Teens charged over alleged property offences in Hunter

Three teenage boys, two as young as 15, have been charged following an investigation into property offences in the Hunter.

Police started an investigation after receiving reports of several break and enters at unit complexes in Tarro on Sunday 30 November.

Officers were told a group entered the Quarter Session Road apartments before allegedly stealing a wallet and an electronic device about 11pm on Saturday 29 November.

A short time later, another unit complex on the same street was broken into.

It’s believed a handbag and a Suzuki sedan were stolen.

Officers located the vehicle abandoned on Kingstown Road, Woodberry, about 5.30am on Sunday 30 November.

Police established multiple crime scenes and seized the sedan for a forensic examination.

Then, about 1.30pm on Monday 1 December, they arrested three boys – one aged 16 and two 15 – on Lawson Avenue, Beresfield.

The trio was taken to Maitland Police Station.

The oldest teen was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He’ll appear before a children’s court on Thursday 15 January.

One of the younger boys was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and shoplifting.

After being formally refused bail, he’ll front a children’s court on Tuesday 9 December.

The third boy was charged with four counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal; three counts of fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgment; two counts of breach of bail; police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly; drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; class A motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45km/h; three counts of larceny; dishonestly obtain property by deception; aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence; and destroy or damage property.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday 11 December.
