Teens charged following overnight pursuit in stolen vehicle

Three teens have been arrested and charged following an overnight pursuit involving an allegedly stolen vehicle from Lambton.

About 3am on Tuesday 19 March, officers from Newcastle City Police District were patrolling Glebe Road, Adamstown, when they attempted to stop an Audi A6 sedan.

When the driver failed to obey directions, a pursuit was initiated.

It continued towards Tomago where the vehicle came to a halt.

Following initial inquiries, officers established the sedan was stolen from a home on Grainger Street, Lambton, a short time earlier.

The driver of the car, a 15-year-old boy, and his two passengers – another 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl – were arrested at the scene.

They were then conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police Station.

The male passenger was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Tuesday 19 March.

The driver was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed.

The female passenger was indicted for being carried in conveyance without consent of owner.

Both were granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Monday 15 April.
