In tragic news overnight, a teenage girl has died in hospital after being attacked by a dog at a home in Singleton last week.
Emergency services were called to a premises on Broughton Street about 11.30am on Thursday 4 September.
There, they found a 17-year-old girl, later identified as Annalyse Blyton, suffering severe injuries to her head, neck and body.
She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
Police were told the girl was at a friend’s home when the incident occurred.
The 10-year-old dog – described as a large canine of mixed breed – lived at the property.
Officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District, who were assisted by Singleton Council rangers, destroyed the animal with the consent of the owner.
Sadly, police received the news this week they didn’t want to hear.
They were notified Annalyse died from her injuries on Monday 8 September.
While a report is being prepared for the information of the Coroner, investigations are continuing.
