On arrival, officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District located a lone vehicle, which had smashed into a power pole.
An 18-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Then, about 8.15am on Sunday 15 March, officers received notification that he had passed away as a result of his injuries.
