A 13-year-old boy is set to front children’s court following the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman near Maitland this week.
Police were informed a female – aged in her 80s – was walking in Brooklyn Park in Ashtonfield when she was knocked to the ground about 7.20pm on Monday 17 November.
It’s claimed a young make then sexually assaulted her.
He left the scene a short time later, while the woman returned home before police were alerted to the incident by her family.
She was subsequently taken to the John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
Detectives attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District and the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad began an investigation under Strike Force Bosgar.
Following extensive inquiries, they executed a search warrant at a home in East Maitland about 7.40pm on Tuesday 18 November.
There, a teenager was arrested, taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm on victim; sexually touch another person without consent; and incite another to sexually touch them without consent.
