Teen charged after luxury vehicle theft, police pursuit

A 17-year-old boy will be charged with a string of offences after leading police on a pursuit through the Hunter region in a stolen Audi A5 on Thursday morning.

The teen allegedly stole the vehicle from a home in Valentine on Wednesday, where police will allege he was joined by another teen who stole a Porshe Cayenne from the same address.

About 2.20am on Thursday (28 March) police from Newcastle City Police District were patrolling Minmi Road, Fletcher, when they located both vehicles.

When the vehicles allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The Porsche evaded police and officers pursued the Audi to Heatherbrae where it lost control and came to a stop near the Pacific Highway and Masonite Road intersection.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested at the scene before being taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.

There he was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated break and enter, driving without consent of owner, and police pursuit, driving at speed.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court.

Inquiries are ongoing to locate the other vehicle and person/s involved.
