A 14-year-old boy has been charged with nine offences following an investigation into a serious crash at Ashtonfield earlier this week.
Police were called to South Seas Drive about 5.30am on Tuesday 29 September following reports of a crash.
Officers were told a sedan allegedly lost control, struck the kerb, became airborne and rolled before landing outside a home.
Police allege the driver fled the scene, while a 14-year-old passenger was arrested nearby.
The passenger was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital under police guard with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
Police later established the sedan had allegedly been stolen from a home on Coromandel Close, Ashtonfield, about an hour earlier.
A mobile phone and balaclava were allegedly located inside the vehicle, which was seized for forensic examination.
The passenger was subsequently charged with aggravated break and enter and being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent. He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on 19 October.
Following further inquiries under Operation Soteria, police arrested a second 14-year-old boy near Beresfield on Thursday morning.
He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with nine offences, including affray, aggravated break and enter, taking and driving a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, failing to stop and assist after an impact causing injury, and disguising his face with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The teenager was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Thursday, where he was formally refused bail to reappear on Tuesday 6 October.
