Talent at Tocal offers musical school kids a chance to perform

SHARE

Hunter Valley school children with musical talent have a chance to secure a paid gig to showcase their act at Tocal Field Days.

Event manager Charise Foulstone said Talent at Tocal was another way to “give back to the local community”.

“It’s not a talent quest,” she explained.

“Students will be paid commercial rates to perform at various locations at the event on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1.

“We just want to give them real music industry experience in front of a real audience.

“So, we’re calling for applications to audition later this month from Hunter and Central Coast school students, aged 10 and older, who sing, play an instrument or both.

“Performances need to be in keeping with a family-oriented rural community event, but they don’t have to be strictly country music.”

Wallsend teenager Emily Crouch performed last year and has registered to perform again in 2022.

The Callaghan Jesmond High School student is a singer, guitarist and songwriter who also plays ukulele.

“Talent at Tocal was a great experience which really fuelled my confidence,” she said.

“There are so many people at Tocal and lots of them stopped to listen and came up to me to say they loved my voice and performances.

“I’ve always loved music and have been singing since I could talk.

“I would 100% recommend other performers take this opportunity at Tocal to gain experience and a chance to showcase your talent to lots of people.”

She said the experience at Tocal encouraged her to continue singing and songwriting.

Under her stage name of Jadily, she is about to drop her first single, which she will also perform at Tocal.

Physically There is a song she has written, inspired by the experience of COVID-19.

“It’s about people missing out on being physically with people but being mentally with people and connecting in other ways,” she said.

People interested in performing at Tocal must apply by 22 February.

Application forms are available at www.tocalfielddays.com/entertainment or from local school offices.

Auditions will take place on 23 February and 5 March at Tocal Agricultural Centre.

Tocal Field Days is going ahead on 29 and 30 April and 1 May at the Tocal Agricultural Centre, Paterson.

It is the leading field day in the Hunter region – a record 28,000 people attended the event last year.

Tickets for the event will go on sale in March.
