Much to the delight of Hunter Bird Observers Club members, migratory shorebird Latham’s Snipe has been recorded in the hundreds across several locations in the Hunter Estuary this week.
Hundreds of shorebirds are expected to arrive in the Hunter Estuary this month from their long journey, as far away as Alaska and Siberia, to escape the northern hemisphere winter.
Rehabilitated shorebird habitat in the Hunter estuary is vitally important in the East Asian-Australasian flyway, according to the Hunter Bird Observers Club (HBOC).
