Lake Macquarie music-lovers will be treated to one of Australia’s most angelic voices when revered folk trio Elixir performs this week.
The band, featuring the vocal talents of five-time ARIA, AWMA, AIR and APRA award-winner Katie Noonan, is slated to take the stage at the Warners Bay Theatre on Friday 3 November.
It comes hot on the heels of the group’s fourth studio album, A Small Shy Truth, out via ABC Classic.

The record’s based on the poetry of Melbourne poet and National Living Treasure Michael Leunig and highlights the compositions of the three members – National Jazz Award, ARIA Award winning and Freedman Jazz Fellowship finalist saxophonist/composer Zac Hurren, Freedman Jazz Fellowship winning and National Jazz Award finalist guitarist Benjamin Hauptmann and Noonan.
Alongside the trio are legendary double bassist Jonathan Zwartz and a luscious string quartet with arrangements penned by some of Australia finest composers – Iain Grandage, Joe Chindamo and Steve Newcomb, and Michael himself reading his poetry.
Founded in 1997, Elixir’s initial self-titled album in 2003 peaked at No 1 on the ARIA Jazz and No 2 on the ARIA Australian Artist charts.
Their second, First Seed Ripening (2011), sat atop the ARIA Jazz chart for nine weeks and won the ARIA Best Jazz Album of the Year.
Gratitude and Grief (2018) was then nominated for the 2018 ARIA Best Jazz Album.
Supporting Elixir on tour is Charm of Finches made up of Melbourne sister duo Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes.
The siblings were the recipients of the Best Folk Album (2022) at the Australian Folk Music Awards and Music Victoria Best Folk Act (2021).
Their music has also been nominated twice for the prestigious Australian Music Prize.
They released their third full-length album Wonderful Oblivion in 2021 through New York-based label AntiFragile Music to critical acclaim and they’ve since toured extensively through the UK, Europe and Canada.
