Survivor’s R Us welcomes new home at Cardiff

SHARE

Almost a year to the day it was promised a funding boost, Survivor’s R Us opened the doors to its new premises this week.

Thanks to a $2.8 million windfall from the Australia Government, founder Ann Maria Martin welcomed locals and guests alike to the organisation’s permanent base at 52a Pendlebury Road, Cardiff, on Thursday 2 April.

After an increase in rent at its previous site, the charity needed to find an alternative.

So, Shortland MP Pat Conroy stepped in before the 2025 federal election, vowing to provide a substantial investment to secure Survivor’s R Us’ future.

And, the delivery of that commitment ensures the critical support the organisation provides for those experiencing domestic and family violence, or homelessness, can continue.

“We’re eternally grateful to Pat for acquiring the much-needed finance to purchase a long-lasting site,” Ms Martin said.

“It’ll allow us to help many more people in the community.

“The demand for our service has increased immensely, so much so we require a booking for anyone needing support.

“That probably highlights how much residents are battling at the moment, especially during a cost-of-living crisis.”

The not-for-profit, and critical community hub, offers free counselling services, support groups, affordable groceries and second-hand goods to those who need it most.

“For nine years, Survivor’s R Us has been there for the most vulnerable – for survivors of domestic and family violence, for those experiencing homelessness and for those struggling to find work,” Mr Conroy said.

“With our $2.8 million investment, this work will continue for years to come as they now have a permanent site.

“With a new home, this is another chapter for Survivor’s R Us.

“I’m grateful for what they continue to do every day for our community.”
