Australian music royalty is set to take over the Civic Theatre to showcase the celebrated work of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
Marina Prior, Silvie Paladino, Joshua Robson and Chloé Zuel are presenting Superstars, a stunning two-and-a-half-hour journey, via four performances at the iconic Newcastle venue from 8 to 10 March.
The highly-acclaimed vocalists will be backed by a 100-voice mass choir and the Hunter Pops Orchestra, conducted by Dan Wilson.
Prior needs no introduction.
She’s regarded as Australia’s leading lady of musical theatre and, in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.
She is arguably best known for her lead role as Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera, one she played for more than three years.
Paladino has established herself as one of the country’s most versatile and talented entertainers.
After standing out in the Australasian tour of Les Misérables, she made her mark in Cats, Mamma Mia, Miss Saigon, Fun Home, Cinderella and as the lead Florence Vassy in Chess The Musical, a performance she recreated for the sold-out season at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle in 2021.
Zuel is renowned most notably as Eliza Hamilton in the original Australian cast of Hamilton the Musical, while Robson recently starred as the titular role in The Phantom of the Opera with Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, for which he was nominated for Best Lead Performance in a Musical at the Sydney Theatre Awards.
The quartet will join forces with a team of local talent – Katie Blaxland, Tayla Choice, Thomas James, Jon Murphy, Layla Schillert, Amy Vee, Marty Worrall and Danny Folpp – to honour the musical genius of theatre giants Lloyd Webber and Rice, with hits from the best-loved musicals of the 20th Century, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Starlight Express, Aida, Chess, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Sunset Boulevard, The Phantom of the Opera and many more.
Directed by Erin James, with musical direction from ARIA nominee Wilson, Superstars is expected to be spectacular in every sense of the word.
Tickets are on sale via civictheatrenewcastle.com.au or by phoning 4929 1977.
