Sportsground overhaul slated for Cardiff South

A new draft plan is set to transform one of Cardiff South’s most popular sportsgrounds.

The draft Master Plan will see a community hall, children’s playground, sports amenities building, and additional car parking built at Ulinga Sportsground in Cardiff South to revamp the site.

Community feedback is being sought on the draft plan for the 6-hectare sportsground, home to South Cardiff Football Club and host of summer senior and junior cricket.

Lake Macquarie City Council Community Land Planner Rachel Robson said anticipated growth in surrounding suburbs and the age of existing facilities at Ulinga Sportsground meant the time was right to undertake an upgrade.

“After consulting with users of Ulinga Park, we’ve come up with a suite of proposed upgrades, which we’re now seeking feedback on from the wider community,” she said.

“These upgrades will be rolled out in stages, with priority given to projects for which Council has funding, including those identified in the Glendale Catchment Contributions Plan.

“The end result will deliver a quality facility that continues to support active lifestyles in the local community.”

Under the plan, $2.9 million worth of upgrades would be completed over the next two years, including design and construction of a new sports amenities building, community hall, playground, additional car parking and footpaths.

The northern oval’s lighting would also be upgraded within that timeframe.

“Redevelopment of Ulinga Community Hall will provide a multi-purpose space for the local community, including groups displaced by the closure of John Young Community Hall in 2016,” Ms Robson said.
