Smart tech unlocks new storage solutions at Charlestown Swim Centre

SHARE

Smart lockers using bluetooth and a simple-to-use mobile phone app are set to provide a safer place to store valuables at Charlestown Swim Centre.

Swim Centres east team leader Chris Wilson said pool users had long requested locker facilities – and the dozen blue lockers installed this week harnessed cutting-edge technology to ensure those needs were fulfilled.

“Using an app and bluetooth to remotely open the lockers means people using them don’t have to manage loose locker keys or access cards while swimming,” he said.

“Then it’s just a matter of picking a four-digit PIN to open the locker, using its digital keypad.”

The system, created by smart locker provider Yellowbox, provides Lake Macquarie City Council with information about when lockers are most in demand.

Mr Wilson said the lockers were free for the first hour as an introductory offer, and $2 an hour thereafter.

“This is a small but important step to provide new services to customers, and to embrace new technology to improve customer experience,” he explained.

“We’ll keep an eye on how they’re going over the next few months and will possibly look at rolling them out at other locations down the track.”

Winter opening hours kicked off this week at Charlestown Swim Centre.
