Swimmers will return to the 25-metre heated pool at Singleton Gym and Swim from Monday 3 August, with the facility reopening temporarily while Singleton Council considers a permanent solution.

The pool has been out of operation following the demolition of its dome enclosure.

Council staff have since tested whether the pool could maintain a suitable temperature without the enclosure, with the water holding steady between 28 and 29 degrees.

The facility has now been returned to operator Belgravia Leisure for temporary use.

The pool will open from 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Belgravia Area Manager Amanda Lenton said the team was looking forward to welcoming swimmers back.

“The pool temperature has been holding steady at a comfortable 28 to 29 degrees, and we can’t wait to see swimmers back in the water enjoying the facilities,” she said.

“Our lifeguards are looking forward to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all pool users.”

Singleton Council is continuing to assess tenders for a permanent solution, with a report expected to be presented to councillors at their August meeting.

Acting General Manager Melinda Curtis said the pool remained a high priority for the community.

“We’re extremely aware that the 25-metre pool at the Gym + Swim is a high priority for our community and pleased that people will have a place to swim as an interim measure,” she said.

“Our aim is to ensure the best possible solution to reopen the pool permanently and minimise further disruption.”

Council said the tender assessment would consider value for money, project timeframes and the long-term needs of the facility.

A decision is expected to provide greater certainty around when the pool will reopen permanently.
