A teenage girl is fighting for her life after being attacked by a large dog at a home in Singleton.
Emergency services were called to a residence on Broughton Street at about 11.30am on Thursday 4 September.
There, they found a 16-year-old suffering severe injuries to her head, neck and body.
She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
She’s now currently receiving treatment.
Officers were told the girl was visiting her friend’s house on Broughton Street when the attack occurred.
The 10-year-old dog, who lived at the home, was described as being large and of mixed breed.
During the incident, bystanders intervened and were able to get the canine off the teen before calling for assistance.
The dog was then destroyed by officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District, according to a NSW Police spokesperson.
Authorities were assisted at the scene by Singleton Council rangers, too.
