A Shortland-based manufacturing business has been awarded almost $3 million in federal funding to develop innovative battery-powered transport technology.
3ME Technology was one of 13 recipients via the national Industry Growth Program, receiving $2.95 million to construct and commercialise four Battery Powered Transport Trailers.
The equipment will boast applications across mining, defence, construction, ports and warehousing.
Company CEO Justin Bain said the financial support would help fast-track their new Powered Trailer solution, which uses in-house BladeVOLT and BladeDRIVE technology.
“We’re extremely grateful to have received a grant under the Industry Growth Program,” he stated.
“This development supports 3ME charging ahead as a globally-competitive machine.
“As a leader in power and electrification working predominately across mining and defence sectors, this product will deliver lower emissions logistics solutions and provide remote power to off-highway sectors.
“So, we look forward to working with the department to deliver this program.”
Shortland MP Pat Conroy congratulated the team at 3ME and said the investment was a prime example of what the future Australian workforces could look like.
“Homegrown innovation, local industry and secure, well-paid jobs,” he explained.
“That’s what a future made in Australia is all about.
“By backing Australian businesses like 3ME Technology, we are turning innovation into industry right here in Cardiff.”
The program aims to strengthen the country’s manufacturing capabilities by supporting high-potential businesses to bring new strategy to market and scale globally.
It offers advisory services and two funding streams, including Early Stage Commercialisation grants of up to $250,000, and larger Commercialisation and Growth grants of up to $5 million.
To be eligible, businesses must first participate in the Industry Growth Program Advisory Service, with applications to the initiative open on an ongoing basis.
