Hot on the heels of Broke’s success at the 2026 Top Tourism Town Awards, Shoal Bay also claimed an impressive accolade.
The popular Port Stephens suburb collected the People’s Choice Winner in the small tourism category at the event, a significant achievement celebrating the destination’s outstanding visitor experience and strong community pride.
Making the triumph ever better was the fact the honour is determined by public vote.
Destination Port Stephens CEO Jo Thomas expressed her delight.
“The award’s a wonderful acknowledgement of Shoal Bay’s unique appeal and the collaborative efforts of local businesses, tourism operators and the wider community,” she said.
“This recognition is incredibly special because it has been voted by the public.
“It reflects the passion and pride our local businesses and community have in showcasing Shoal Bay as one of NSW’s most loved coastal destinations.
“Shoal Bay continues to captivate visitors with its natural beauty, relaxed coastal lifestyle, exceptional dining experiences and world-class nature-based attractions.
“And, this award reinforces the strength of our destination and the experiences we collectively deliver.”
Port Stephens mayor Leah Anderson also welcomed the acknowledgement, highlighting the importance of tourism to the local economy and community.
“We are incredibly proud to see Shoal Bay recognised at a state level,” she said.
“This award is a testament to the dedication of our tourism operators, hospitality businesses and community members who make visitors feel so welcome.
“The latest honour adds to growing recognition for the Port Stephens region, following recent strong visitation growth and increasing awareness of the destination as a year-round holiday location.”
Meanwhile, the historic village of Broke prevailed in the competitive population under 1,500 residents’ division.
It followed runner-up results in 2024 and 2025.
