Underwater spectacle ‘Shark Dive’ takes centre stage at PACC during school holidays

SHARE

Families searching for a unique school holiday activity will soon have the chance to dive beneath the ocean’s surface.

Erth’s Shark Dive is arriving at Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) next month

Created by internationally-acclaimed theatre company Erth Visual & Physical Inc, the immersive stage production invites audiences on an underwater adventure exploring the mysterious world of sharks and the marine life that surrounds them.

The play combines storytelling with innovative puppetry and striking visual design, transforming the theatre into a live ocean experience.

It will guide audiences through the depths while introducing the creatures that call it home.

This production aims to challenge common perceptions of sharks, presenting them not as villains of the sea but as vital animals that play an important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

With Erth’s signature larger-than-life puppets and engaging narration, the show unfolds like a live underwater documentary, bringing audiences face-to-face with Australia’s iconic sharks as well as ancient ocean dwellers and other marine species.

Designed for children aged five and older, the production combines theatre, education and imagination, offering families an opportunity to learn about marine life and ocean conversation in an engaging and accessible way.

Early reviews have also praised the production’s ability to entertain while educating young audiences.

“Not only is it engaging, entertaining and immersive, but it is a standout way to teach children about our oceans, the animals that inhabit them, and conservation in a way that they will take in and talk about long after they leave too,” Brisbane Kids said.

Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane says they “cherished every second of Erth’s Shark Dive and suggest going if you have the opportunity”.

Founded more than three decades ago, Earth Visual & Physical Inc is internationally recognised for its visually striking puppetry-based productions and community projects.

The company’s work often explores natural history, environmental sustainability and storytelling that inspires audiences to think differently about the world around them.

Erth’s Shark Dive will take place at PACC on Wednesday 15 April, with two sessions scheduled at 10.30am and 12.30pm.

The show runs for approximately 55 minutes and includes fog or smoke effects and occasional loud noises.

Tickets are available now through the PACC website.
