Seven COVID-19 cases detected in HNELHD

SHARE

For the first time in a while, the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) has recorded less than 10 new COVID-19 cases overnight.

With seven found across four LGAs, the discoveries take the total number in the current outbreak to 4,347.

Locally, the Newcastle LGA made the list with two infections in North Lambton while Lake Macquarie and Singleton both added one case.

The remaining three cases are in the Mid Coast LGA.

Two of the infections are linked to known exposures or clusters and six were infectious in the community.

In the district there are 287 active cases, with two in hospital requiring care in ICU.

Overall, NSW reported 337 new infections.

The number of people infected with the Omicron variant has also risen to nine after a school student and returned traveller tested positive to this strain.

The student is from Regents Park Christian School in western Sydney and NSW Health is concerned the virus may have been acquired in the community as the case has no overseas travel history or links to people who have been overseas.

Across the state, 92.6 per cent of people over the age of 16 are fully vaccinated, while 76.9 per cent of people aged 12 to 15 have received both jabs.

There are currently 140 cases admitted to hospital, with 25 people in intensive care, 10 of whom require ventilation.

If you need to get tested for COVID-19 there are more than 450 clinics open across NSW.
