Newcastle Knights players Dylan Brown and Dylan Lucas will miss the remainder of the 2026 NRL season after suffering serious injuries during Friday night’s narrow loss to the Sydney Roosters.

The Knights were edged out 23-22 at McDonald Jones Stadium after Daly Cherry-Evans kicked the match-winning field goal in the 77th minute.

Lucas was forced from the field during the opening half after dislocating and fracturing his left ankle. The forward will undergo surgery today.

Brown then suffered a left knee injury early in the second half, with scans confirming he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

The halfback will require reconstructive surgery before beginning a structured rehabilitation program under the guidance of the Knights’ medical and high-performance staff.

Despite losing Lucas and Brown, Newcastle remained in the contest until the closing minutes.

The injuries added to a difficult night for Newcastle, with Manuleleua and Tyson Frizell also leaving the field for head injury assessments during the match.

The Knights confirmed both Brown and Lucas would now begin lengthy recovery programs, with the club hoping to welcome them back during the 2027 NRL season.

“Knights staff and teammates wish both players all the very best and look forward to supporting their return to play in the 2027 season” the club said.
