A major search operation from the sea and sky is continuing, on Monday, for a missing swimmer off Stockton.
It follows reports a man was initially submerged underwater about 3pm on 26 November.
Volunteer lifesavers from Stockton SLSC and Birubi SLSC responded to an incident when the alarm was raised by NSW Police.
They requested assistance through the Surf Life Saving NSW State Operations Centre for five people caught in a rip.
On arrival, four men had self-rescued.
But, they reported that a fifth man, described as between 18-20 and of Middle Eastern appearance, had submerged in the water approximately 200m offshore.
Surf Life Saving NSW UAV and jet ski assets hit the water from 8am on 27 November while the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter flew up from Sydney to assist in the search.
