One of the region’s “favourite sons”, The Screaming Jets, will touchdown at the Newcastle Jockey Club (NJC) for its Hunter Race Day in 2024.
With hits such as Better, Helping Hand, C’Mon, Shivers and Eve of Destruction at their disposal, Dave Gleeson and the boys are primed for a big performance on Saturday 16 November.
It coincides with the most prestigious event on the NJC calendar, featuring The Hunter’s own $1 million race.
CEO Duane Dowell admitted there was not a “Better” band to entertain the masses.
“The Screaming Jets, like the Newcastle Racecourse, are deeply rooted in The Hunter and Newcastle,” he said.
“The guys are considered local legends and have become a part of Newcastle’s identity.
“Their ability to resonate with the people of our town provides the perfect atmosphere for The Hunter, which is the region’s most significant racing event for the year.”
Since its inception in 2019, The Hunter has grown in stature and attracts leading trainers, jockeys and horses from around the nation.
“There’s nothing better than the crowd roaring as some of Australia’s best horses thunder down the straight,” Dowell said.
“And, I’m sure it’ll be followed by their cheers for one of Newcastle’s most well-known bands.”
In addition to The Screaming Jets, there will be a range of other entertainment, including a TAB lobby and Glam Cam, Myer Pamper Station and Fashions on the Field.
Gleeson, himself, wholeheartedly agrees with Dowell.
“You don’t get more perfect than two iconic things together, The Screaming Jets and Newcastle Racecourse,” he said.
“Come along, have a punt, enjoy a day at the races and see us go off.”
Those interested in attending The Hunter and partying to The Screaming Jets should get in quick as tickets are selling fast.
